When Eminem almost changed a Beatie Boys album

Back in 2004, as the Beastie Boys prepared to release their sixth studio album, they were stuck on one difficult decision: the album’s title. They were torn between two titles: “To the 5 Boroughs”, which was named after New York City, or “Still Doin’ It”, which was more of an inside joke between the members.

One night, after performing on MTV, the boys were hanging out in their dressing room, when Eminem unexpectedly came in. After greeting everyone, Eminem said the phrase, “Still doin’ it, man, still doin’ it”, completely unaware of the joke in the group. The room burst into laughter, leaving Eminem confused what was so funny. Instead of saying anything, Eminem just walked out of the room, never finding out what he did to make everyone laugh.

So without knowing, Eminem almost influenced the Beastie Boys to change the name of their album to “Still Doin’ It”. But in the end, they stuck with “To the 5 Boroughs”, as that name fit the album’s themes a lot better.
